Vortrag am 21. November 2019 von Vanda Visocka (University of Latvia)

Pottery production must have had a significant role in the every day life of prehistoric communities, since ceramic vessels were one of the main storing and food preparation objects. Pottery by itself contains a large amount of information, and by analysing ceramic vessel properties such as surface treatment, shape and ornamentation, tempering and construction techniques we can find out a lot about aesthetic values of the communities and the development of pottery craftsmanship, particularly in view of cultural interaction. In this lecture the author will introduce the main tendencies of pottery production and stylistic-technical aspects in everyday life and in burial traditions of the eastern Baltic region in the first millennium BC, also in light of chemical-compositional analyses.
