Vortrag am 16. November von Dr. Magdalena Öhrman

Der Vortrag bildet den Auftakt zum Workshop „Narratology and Structure in Ancient Epic”des DFG-Projekts ‘Epische Bauformen’

Exploring literary and archaeologica approaches to the materiality of textiles in Latin epic, the paper argues that beyond offering overt statements on spinning and weaving, epic references to textiles include stylistic features that reveal a close relationship between epic literary guise and historical craft practices. The work presented here is part of a larger research project on textiles and textile production in Roman poetry which combines soundscape studies and results from experimental archaeology with philological analysis, based at the Centre for Textile Research at the University of Copenhagen.
